Crappie night fishing

When you go fishing at night there's a special solitude and quietness that is so much different then fishing during the day. and the best thing is that the big slab crappie are always out feeding at night. You can catch crappie in the hot dead of summer during the day during cloudy periods or when the water is muddy, but if you want to increase your chances of catch crappie and big slabs you need to try crappie night fishing. To have a successful crappie fishing at night trip you need to do some good pre-planning. You really need to have a good pre-planning list when you go crappie night fishing because bad pre-planning can ruin a trip and put a bad taste in mouth for night fishing.

Pre-planning step:

1. Identify your night fishing for crappie location.

The standard thought is the best lakes for night fishing are clear, over 500 acres in size and are deep, and the fish will seek the oxygen rich depth levels to settle for the night. In many shallow lakes, and other water impoundments the fishing is often poor because they have no cold water areas that have oxygen rich depths to go to. But I have caught a good number of crappie night fishing in shallow lakes that have a lot of wind action that seems to cool the water starting close to dusk onto the night. I recommend you get on the lake or other water area before night fall and do some scouting to pick your night fishing location, or locations. Typically normal crappie structure points where crappie typically are located during the day will work. Mark your location with land marks that can be identified at night easily, or if you have a GPS log in the location, because things look totally different at night.

Pre-planning step:

2. When you plan a Have a emergency plan when you fish for crappie at night.

It is very important that you have the following emergency equipment on your boat when you fish at night. Make sure your running lights work properly so other boats can see you at night. There have been many boating accidents at night because folks had running lights that did work, or did not work properly. It is important that you have emergency flashlights, the best are leds because they have a better brightness, so you can signal other boats if they are getting to close so you can get some help. A cell phone definitely has a purpose out on the water, especially to call the marina if you have a problem with your boat.

Pre-planning step:

3. This step will catch you fish, have the right crappie night fishing lights.

In my opinion, if you want to catch numbers, having the right night fishing for crappie lights is the most important preplanning tip. You will need proper lighting to hang over the boat and inside the boat and two coleman type propane lanterns or two good led lanterns would work well. You need one to hang over the side of the boat and one inside the boat so you can change your baits and rigging. You should have a submergible underwater fishing light that uses florescent light and is powered by a 12volt power source like a car battery. When you go to purchase a submerged fishing light make sure it has at least 4 ft cables so you can lower your light into the water with ease, and extend the light under the water away from your boat by a couple of feet. These lights are great because they will attract a great deal of bait fish to your night fishing for crappie location.
