If you want to spend some quality time with some of your family or friends take them night fishing. If you get things set up correctly and have quality underwater fishing equipment you could be in for a very enjoyable evening. Light fishing is not a new technology and has been around for years because most die hard night fisherman know the importance of attracting bait fish to there night fishing location.

Night fishing lights are not a catch all for night fishing. You still need to do proper planning, and familiarize yourself with the right tackle and baits, but using underwater fishing lighting will enhance your night fishing success.

One very important reason many game fish like to feed at night is because they have a distinct advantage over there prey at night. When you attract bait fish to your submerged fishing lighting source game fish will sit right outside on the edges of the light source beam and wait for unsuspecting bait fish to come by.

The bait fish cannot react as quickly as the game fish at night and are an easy meal for many species of fish at night, particularly the species that have good eye sight and smell, crappie, walleye and catfish.

Game fish such as crappie and walleye and many others are active night feeders because they have very good night vision and can see color contrast and the can distinguish between different light intensities very easy. If you plan on going light fishing light fishing look for either a blue or green fishing light that can be submerged under water.

Many small baitfish, shrimp, and insects are attracted to lights at night but they do not have the acute night vision that many game fish like crappie and walleye do.

There are two types of commercial underwater lighting that you can purchase, but we will not discuss the land based systems used primarily at boat docks. We will concentrate on portable dc powered submersible lights used for fishing. When you go to purchase one of these lights here is what to look for in priority order.
